I use the stage name ‘Shai Shim’ which is made up of my middle names, both of which are of Chinese descent, Shim being the surname of my grandparents.
I enjoy ice & roller hockey. My hobbies include making beats. I love listening to all types of music and writing lyrics for new tracks.
My parents noticed I loved music so much that my father built a home studio so I can develop my skills in my own time whenever I can.
I started rapping at the age of 10, when my mother noticed I liked rapping to `Lil Bow Wow` songs on the radio & TV, she asked if I would like to try rapping my own tracks. She then arranged for a family friend and rapper KC, to write lyrics and find some beats to rap to. I made my first appearance at my cousins christening, performing a track called `You Betta Know`. Although it was in front of family and friends I was still a little nervous.
After doing more live appearances my mother contacted another family friend, a well known Birmingham based rapper called Blaq-I, with whose help I started writing my own lyrics.

During 2003-2004 I worked very hard raising the profile of Shai Shim mainly in Birmingham, with the help of an international artist from Atlanta Georgia called Hollywood.
The most memorable show of 2003/4 was the `Rocafella Urban Music Seminar` in London where I won an award called the `Trident Youth Award`.
More memorable experiences were supporting Busta Rhymes & the Flipmode Squad with Blaq-I on the 2003 European Tour performing in London, Milan, Zurich, Berlin, Munich and Paris where we performed for crowds of 6000 to 9000.
I am currently working with A.K from Propoint Studios, K-Lion from IMG Music Group & D.J. Scratch of the Flipmode Squad in America. I also worked on the other side of the water with Peter Lindahl from IMA Records in Sweden, Europe, Staan Lahti and Ollie Olson who mixed & mastered tracks by Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, Ice-T and other major superstar artists.
